Suspenders4Hope 5k and 1 Mile Memorial Walk

KansasCOM will be creating a 5K team and will also assist with volunteers for the 3rd Annual Suspenders4Hope 5k and 1 Mile walk to benefit StopSuicideICT, presented by Ascension Via Christi and the Steve Clark YMCA. Registration and check-in begins at 8:30am with the 5k starting at 9am. The race is an official, certified course on the beautiful Wichita State University Campus, and will begin in the parking lot of the Steve Clark YMCA. Following the race, there will be several speakers and awards given. The event will conclude with a 1 Mile Memorial Walk in honor of those who lost their lives to suicide.

Students are encouraged to either sign up to walk/run the race or to volunteer at the event.

VOLUNTEERING AT THIS EVENT WILL COUNT TOWARD EVALUE VOLUNTEER HOURS.

PARKING: Parking will be in the parking lot NEXT TO the YMCA, but not the actual YMCA parking lot as it is open to the public this day, so we do not want to take up those spots. Whoever is directing traffic - you will also direct people who are coming to the event to the same parking lot we park in. Only people who are going to the YMCA may park in the actual YMCA parking lot.

What to wear: ***KansasCOM students and staff, please wear KansasCOM gear!!!*** Please check the weather and dress accordingly. We do ask that any tattoos that could be offensive (profanity, nudity, racial) be covered. We do recommend that you wear tennis shoes since you will be standing and walking around.

Staff will be at a table with a big VOLUNTEERS CHECK IN HERE sign.

You will check in there and then receive information about where you will be during the event and what you will be doing (checking runners/walkers in, giving directions during the race, etc). We will need help setting up at the beginning, so we may do that first and then go to our assigned spots.

You will each get a bottle of water for the event.

The race starts at 9am and usually ends around 10, after that will be the program, and then the walk begins. Ending time will be about 11:30am or so.

For those directing runners on the path, spots will be marked with numbers of where we want people. When you check in, you will receive your number. You will walk the path until you find that number and that will be where you will stay and direct people.

IF YOU WOULD LIKE TO PARTICIPATE IN THE 1 MILE WALK, NO NEED TO SIGN UP AND PAY THE $15. THE WALK SHOULD BE FREE TO ALL FOLLOWING THE 5K.
