Invitation to Attend Unconscious Bias Training
Dear Campus Community
The office of Title IX invites you to attend the Unconscious Bias Training session, which will be held on Tuesday, September 5, 2023, from 1pm to 3pm in Room 117. Please RSVP via the link below. Seating is limited.
This training is open to all students, staff, and faculty members, the Office of Admissions kindly encourages ALL faculty interviewers for admissions to participate as part of the interviewer training program.
Unconscious bias refers to the automatic and unintentional stereotypes, attitudes, and assumptions that influence our judgments and decision-making processes. These biases are deeply ingrained within our minds and occur without our conscious awareness. It is important for us to understand unconscious bias because it shapes our perceptions and interactions with others, often leading to unintended discrimination or favoritism.
By raising awareness of unconscious bias, we gain the opportunity to examine our own thoughts and actions, fostering inclusivity and understanding in our diverse community. Unconscious bias affects various aspects of our lives, such as educational settings, workplaces, and social interactions. Acknowledging its existence allows us to challenge these biases and make more informed decisions, ensuring fairness and equal opportunity for all.
During the training session, we will explore the effects of unconscious bias and discuss strategies to mitigate its impact. Through interactive exercises and discussions, participants will gain insights into recognizing and addressing bias, ultimately fostering a more inclusive environment.
Your active participation will contribute to our collective efforts in creating a community that values diversity, promotes equity, and cultivates mutual respect and prevents Title IX incidents from occuring.
If you have any additional questions or require further information, please do not hesitate to reach out to me.
Thank you for your attention, and I look forward to your presence at the Unconscious Bias Training.
Dr. Nick
