“EQUATOR -How to publish a paper”
Anyone wanting to publish a paper, or even anyone wanting to report on a published medical pa-per should be familiar with the EQUATOR Network. EQUATOR stands for Enhancing QUAlity
and Transparency Of health Research. Their website provides an overview and guidelines for the requirements needed according to the specific type of study you are performing. For instance, a randomized controlled trial should follow the CONSORT statement. An observational trial should follow the STROBE guidelines. A meta-analysis should follow PRISMA. Case reports should follow CARE extensions.
Furthermore, the EQUATOR Network which is an international group of experts regarding clini-cal medical statistical reporting across several fields works closely with the International Com-mittee of Medical Journal Editors (ICMJE) who just recently updated their guidelines in 6-01-2022 about requirements for publishing.
The Canadian branch of EQUATOR has put out a video on u-tube “How to publish a paper.” which is a step by step process of the parts necessary to publish different types of medical pa-pers. This is also valuable viewing for the medical professional regardless of level of training to be more familiar with necessary publishing criteria that is specific to types of studies.
