APAMSA serves as a forum for student leaders to engage these health issues and develop initiatives and projects addressing those needs. The local, regional, and national activities of APAMSA aim to promote the health of the AANHPI community and help healthcare workers understand how to care for AANHPI patients in a culturally sensitive manner.

Finally, APAMSA provides an important venue for medical students to meet, exchange experiences, and develop personally and professionally through leadership and service.

Since APAMSA’s inception in 1995, the organization has grown exponentially. We have formalized our leadership structure with an Executive Board, created subcommittees within the national board, established an Alumni Advisory Board, and added regional conferences. With a growing membership, it is essential and necessary to create an official membership process for record keeping, membership confirmation, eligibility for member benefits, etc.

We are implementing dues to ensure a stable source of income, so National APAMSA can provide more scholarships, grants, opportunities, and discounts for our members and local chapters. 100% of the dues will go back to our chapters and allow us to further invest in and build our infrastructure.

To promote future neurologists, neurosurgeons, and neuro sub specialists with further education of clinical skills through related workshops and other events in accordance with the mission of the AAN to “enhance member career fulfillment and promote brain health for all.” The group will promote the values espoused by the AAN such as “community, leadership, well-being, diversity, equity, and inclusion” and work towards promoting and completing the goals set forth by the AAN such as to “grow a diverse neurology workforce, strengthen neurologic practice, promote neuroscience research, and improve neurologic health.” The organization will promote advocacy and be heavily involved in the development of student members into culturally competent future physicians.

By being a member of SIGN, a subchapter of the American Academy of Neurology, members will benefit from conference, research, shadowing, mentorship, and networking opportunities provided by the broader American Academy of Neurology in the fields of neurology, neurosurgery and neuro subspecialties. The concept of "wellness" is very osteopathic in nature in that it focuses on the total person and explores the relationships among the various dimensions of wellness. Understanding the interrelatedness and interconnectivity of the various dimensions is important to achieving comprehensive wellness. The Wellness Committee is committed to promote mental health awareness and holistic health from an equitable lens to serve the diverse needs of our student population by providing information, activities, and services to increase emotional, psychological, physical, spiritual and social well-being.
